The Venue

Make Your Own History

The Morris is not the usual boring hotel ballroom typical for most weddings. If you are looking for special, this place is it. We have the space for you to host everything here, from ceremony to reception to dancing, and all of it in a timeless atmosphere set up the way you want it.

From the moment your guests arrive, they’ll know they’re in for a special night. Enter through our renovated first floor reception area adorned with local area vintage and industrial details. Here you will find guest restrooms and a bridal room with its own restroom and vanity area.

Then take the restored 1955 Otis freight elevator for a dramatic entry to the third floor. Your guests will truly be “wowed” when they step off the elevator into your event. The original hemlock beams, exposed brick, and maple hardwood floors define an event space like no other in West Virginia.

We invite you to visit and imagine the history you can create.

The Morris: Making History Since 1903

Building History

The Morris Grocery Co. building opened in 1903 amidst a boom in the glass and coal industries in West Virginia. Situated in the historic Glen Elk district of Clarksburg across from the B&O Railroad Depot, it started as a dry goods storage and retail space and served as a munitions storehouse during World War One. Over the years it hosted a variety of businesses, but is best remembered locally as the home of Danser Hardware.

My family purchased the building in the 1980’s as part of our efforts to preserve and restore our hometown’s industrial heritage. In the 1990’s we renovated the second story, which now hosts a Montessori school. In 2022 we renovated the first and third floors to create the event space you see now.

We have made every effort to retain and highlight the building’s original look and feel, making it a truly unique event space for West Virginians to share.
